Update -- 1/20/2012: The BBB is warning consumers and businesses about the proliferation of fake emails claiming to be from the BBB.  Most of the emails come with the subject line “Complaint from your customer.” However, a new wave of fake BBB emails is using a different strategy to scam recipients into downloading a virus. In this new wave, emails have a subject line reading "BBB SBQ Form," followed by a series of numbers. Recipients are asked to click on a link to update their information with Better Business Bureau. The link supposedly leads to a form on BBB.org, but it really goes to a third party website that downloads a virus onto your computer.  The emails have a link or an attachment containing malicious phishing malware that steals information, with potentially devastating results.
